Fenwick Department Store – Colchester, UK

Fenwick is an independent chain of department stores, with 10 branches across the United Kingdom, with the Colchester branch recently receiving a face-lift.

Design Goals

Being a high-street department store with entrances to the outside (rather than the interior of a shopping centre), tracked in dirt and moisture were concerns for the Fenwick store designers, in terms of pedestrian safety, and of protecting the hard-tiled floors throughout the store.

Fenwick needed a durable entrance matting solution that could withstand high levels of foot traffic, and that fitted with the store’s brand and image. Renowned for its quality and durable design, CS Pediluxe was chosen.

Results

For the four entrances to the store, CS supplied clear anodised Pediluxe entrance mats with Espresso interior carpet inserts. Each mat was manufactured to suit the expected level of traffic, and to fit in the existing space.

At the busiest entrances – the main high street and the car park entrance – CS supplied longer mats of approximately 5 metres each, to ensure sufficient matting for maximum dirt, grit and water removal.

At the smaller side entrance to the store, CS provided a smaller mat offering just enough entrance matting to capture and absorb dirt & moisture from pedestrian traffic.

The entire CS Pediluxe entrance matting solution will ensure the Colchester Fenwick store stays clean and safe for its visitors, whilst also protecting the hard floor surfaces throughout the store.
